What is Bugsboro?

Bugsboro is a multimedia project by Ham-Cannon productions. It’s primary form is a fictionalized radio show that takes place in-universe. The characters from the show are also featured in comic strips that further define their relationships and the greater bug community. Both of these ongoing projects supplement one another to create one continuity.

About the Creators

Bub (Nick C.) is an independent artist most well known for his work in the Chuck E. Cheese fandom. This includes designing artwork for the two Chuck E. Con fan conventions, as well as creating The Pizza Time Puppets web-series. After graduating college, he did small projects and worked regular jobs while drafting concepts for an animated series about talking bugs. Today he is the primary character artist for Ham-Cannon.

Ham is an independent artist with a background in theatre production and tech. He has overseen many community shows, using his appreciation for the arts to make the productions the best they could be in spite of budgetary restraints. He is the primary background artist for Ham-Cannon productions.

Ham and Nick became creative partners in early 2023 after forming a strong friendship. After Nick introduced Ham to the animatronic ensembles of the past, both men realized that there wasn't really anything to fill that niche in today’s entertainment landscape.

Enter Bugsboro Radio, with witty dialogue, fun music, and a cast of bickering bugs. It's a new spin on the formula that pays tribute to the past while reinventing it for a wider audience.

Our mascot:

Captain Hamhawk

The Captain is a swashbuckling porkbelly pirate who sails the seven seas who searches for the best treasure of all. Art made by humans, for humans.

One common failure for animation companies is to saddle either their first, or most popular character with the responsibility of being a company mascot.

This may not seem like a problem, but can prove to be detrimental to the source material the character originated from. For instance, when Mickey became the mascot of Disney, the character became way more limited as to what he could do on or offscreen. This created an issue where Mickey could hardly even star in his own short films due to the company wanting him to be a role-model for the viewers. It went as far as Disney blocking the character from being used in non-promotional animated projects, while his co-stars got spinoffs and movies. By the early 2000’s, this doctrine caused Mickey to have limited relevance to modern audiences outside of being a corporate symbol.

To protect the Bugsboro characters from this fate, we decided to create a brand new character to be the face of the studio. Ham had already created a wonderful logo of a slab of ham crossed with a cannon. But while that makes a great symbol, we needed a character to go with it. And who better to fire the ham-cannon than a pirate pig? Does it make sense? Not really, but it’s funny.
